Municipal Election

Gypsum’s next Municipal election will be held on April 7th, 2026. There will be three council seats and a mayoral seat to consider on the 2026 ballot. Each of these seats is for a four-year term.

This will be a polling-place election. Voters may cast their ballots on Election Day at the Gypsum Council Chambers, located at Town Hall, 50 Lundgren Blvd., Gypsum, CO 81637

Council Members whose terms expire with this election are:

  • Bill Baxter
  • Marisa Sato
  • Scott Green
  • Steve Carver

As part of this year’s election, Mayor Steve Carver has announced his retirement after more than 30 years of service and dedication to the Gypsum community. Council member Bill Baxter will also be concluding his service on the Town Council. Their leadership and commitment have helped guide Gypsum through numerous community projects and initiatives.

 ELECTION JUDGES ARE NEEDED FOR ELECTION DAY ON APRIL 7TH! An election judge must be registered to vote in the state of Colorado.  If interested, please email the Town Clerk.

Election Judge Criteria 

The Town Clerk is responsible for the conduct of the election on behalf of the 
Town. The Town Clerk shall appoint at least three (3) Election Judges. Counting Judges 
may also be appointed. Prior to Election Day, the Town Clerk will designate one of the 
Election Judges to receive the election supplies. The election supplies must be provided 
to that Election Judge no later than the day prior to the Election. 

Each Election Judge must: 

  • be registered to vote in the State of Colorado; 
  • be at least 18 years of age; 
  • attend an instruction class; 
  • not be a current candidate nor any immediate family member, to the second degree, of such candidate; 
  • execute and return an acceptance of appointment to the Town Clerk within seven (7) days after the date the Town Clerk mailed the certificate of appointment and acceptance form to the Election Judge; and 
  • take a self-affirming oath. 

A Town Clerk may remove an Election Judge who: 

  • neglects his or her duty; 
  • commits, encourages or connives at any fraud in connection with his or her duties; 
  • violates any election laws or knowingly permits others to do so; 
  • violates his or her oath; or 
  • commits any act that interferes or tends to interfere with a fair and honest election. 
Duties of the Election Judges 

The Election Judges shall: 

  • Open and close the polls. 
  • Be responsible for all election materials. 
  • Ensure that only eligible electors are permitted to vote and that each eligible elector is permitted to vote only once. 
  • Maintain order in the polling place throughout the day. 
  • Ensure that no electioneering is going on in the polling place or within 100 feet of any building in which a polling place is located on the day of the Election. 
  • Perform all duties courteously, efficiently and in accordance with the law. 
  • Verify and count ballots cast at the polling place, UOCAVA and absentee ballots, and complete a Judges’ Abstract of Votes and Judges’ Certificate of Election Returns and Statement of Ballots
Who may vote in the election 

An eligible elector for a municipal election is a person who is registered to vote in 
the State of Colorado, is a resident of the Town, and has resided in this state for twentytwo days immediately preceding the election

Electioneering 

Electioneering/campaigning of any kind is prohibited within 100 feet of any 
building in which a polling place is located. Most electioneering is unintentional and 
violators need only to be warned

VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT. Applications to request an absentee ballot be mailed to you may be picked up at Town Hall or can be downloaded below and filed with the Town Clerk.

Absentee ballots will be available in March.

All election documents submitted to the Town of Gypsum are subject to the Colorado Open Records Act and may be open to public inspection.
