Gypsum Community Garden
The Town of Gypsum is proud to support a vibrant Community Garden located in 2nd Street Park (505 Second Street)—a space that has been thoughtfully transformed into a quarter‑acre hub for growing, learning, and connecting. The garden was created to encourage nutritional education, support local food access, and bring neighbors together through shared gardening experiences. Produce grown here also helps nourish our community, with donations made to local food pantries. Together, we’re planting the seeds of a healthier, more connected Gypsum.
Garden Layout
The Community Garden features individual raised garden beds ranging in size to accommodate a variety of planting styles. Each bed is designed to give gardeners plenty of room to grow vegetables, herbs, or flowers while keeping plots manageable and accessible for gardeners of all experience levels.
Organic Gardening Practices
The garden is fully organic—no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers are used. Gardeners work with natural methods such as composting, crop rotation, and companion planting to build healthy soil and support strong plant growth. These practices help maintain a safe, sustainable, and thriving environment for our gardeners and the community.
Raised Bed Features
All raised beds are built using untreated wood to ensure clean, healthy growing conditions. Beds are filled with rich organic soil, compost, and mulch, creating an ideal foundation for vibrant plant life. The layout and height of the beds also support accessibility, making it easier for residents of all ages and abilities to participate.
Food Forest
Beyond the raised beds, the Community Garden includes a growing food forest—an area inspired by permaculture principles that features fruit trees, berry bushes, and perennial plants. This self‑sustaining ecosystem provides ongoing harvests while supporting biodiversity and local wildlife. As of now, the space includes cherry and pear trees, with plans to continue expanding.
Food Stand
One of the garden’s core missions is sharing fresh, local food with the community. The on‑site Food Stand offers organic produce grown right in the garden, operating on a pay‑what‑you‑can model to ensure everyone has access to nutritious food. It’s a meaningful way for the garden to give back and help ensure no one in Gypsum goes without healthy, locally grown options.
